All English 102 students:
1. Because of repeated difficulties getting our Library materials in order, I will now post all PDFs on Blackboard. Whenever you see an RN assignment that instructs you to use the E-Res section of the Library, go instead to Blackboard and look for the correctly numbered/labeled piece. Please note, also, that some readings will STILL be accessed via the Library, but those take the form of searching specific databases.
2. On Monday and Wednesday, depending on your class meeting time, we'll be having a guest speaker, Ursula Bielski. She is also the author of the texts you'll be reading for RN5. Please consider what kind of questions you might like to ask her.
Let's continue the lovely work of collecting strange items and ideas for our Cabinet of Curiosities.

Reminders from Olivia
1. The text for RN2 CANNOT be accessed using the E-Res of the Library; there is a problem. Instead, you can access the five small PDFs of excerpts on Blackboard or over your NEIU e-mail.
2. The Research Task for RN2 requires that you post your findings on this blog. Here are directions for posting:
First of all, you should have already created and sent me a gmail login. I have responded to every message that I received, which means that you should have gotten an invitation (sent to your gmail). Just follow the link.
When you arrive at this site, look in the righthand corner for a link that says "Sign in." Do that. Use the login and password you created for gmail.
Signing in should lead you to a "Dashboard." Once there, you should see our blog: Writing as History. Under our blog name are several options. Choose "New Post."
*Very important: don't choose "Create a Blog" in the corner; if you do that, you'll create your own site, and you won't be writing on our site at all.
After you've clicked on "New Post," you'll arrive at a screen that looks a little like an e-mail screen. There's a title box and a message box. Just fill these in, and make sure you sign your name.
Choose "Publish Post" to make it appear on our blog.

Homework for Wednesday's 2:25 class
Read this book review
and look at the accompanying images
Come to Wednesday’s class with brief notes: 1) What is the purpose of the book review? 2) What is the thesis of the book review? 3) Based on the information you got from the reviewer and the images you examined, what would you guess would be one possible thesis of the book? 3) What’s your favorite image? 4) To what can you compare this topic/project/book/set of images? 4) Skim the RN questions to think about how you’d answer them for this particular text
AND Bring Taylor book

Getting Ready
Welcome new English 102 students!
You'll be using this site to get links, access copies of some course materials, and to write casually (though clearly, please). You will need to get a gmail account (it's easy; go here) and e-mail me your gmail address. Then, I will make you an author on this site.
You'll notice that there are old postings here, from the past year of English 102; the blog used to be called "Writing as History," but we're in a new era now--and you are taste-testing and piloting the new 102. Feel free, though, to browse old writings.
