For my Cultural Document, I chose a movie I saw a couple years back called The Magdelene Sisters. The movie is based on 3 woman that lived in Ireland. Since Ireland is a Catholic country, they used to send women to asylums (laundries) when they were caught doing "unholy" things so they can fix their sins. One of the women was raped by her cousin and was still sent to the Magdelen Laundries just because she wasn't pure anymore. The second woman was sent because she had a baby out of wedlock and the third was sent just because she was too flirtatious. Women in these asylums were beat, forced to do hard labor and shunned from society. I chose this to show the type of world we live in where there's religious extremism.
