Dear Ms. Dawson,
I have so much respect for you, because you’re a hard working woman. You’re always on your feet, and always working to provide for the family. Like you, there are many women in this world who work as hard as you. It’s funny because me personally, I thought that women who worked around the house, like cooking and cleaning, only happened in foreign households, but that’s false. It happens everywhere. I don’t feel that it’s fair for men to always depend on the women to have the food ready, or to have the house clean. If the lady chooses not to work, and wants to be a house wife, then that’s understandable. On the other hand if a woman chooses to work, and doesn’t want to be a stay home mom, then she shouldn’t have to be.
I know what it’s like to have a hardworking mother, or seeing what a hardworking mother is like. My mom, who cooks and works every day, has a lot on her shoulders. I try to cook for her, but I always mess up, and since she’s used to cooking, she never asks me to do make anything for dinner. People like me, can only imagine what women like you and my mother go through. I wanted to ask you, because I know it’s different in each culture, but does your husband ever offer to help? My dad doesn’t, unless my mom is screaming at the tops of her lungs, then he’ll make it seem like he’s helping. You mentioned that you didn’t even know what Marshall Field’s was, that shopping store. It was shocking, because every woman knows what Marshall Fields is. It’s a ladies second home.
I don’t know about you, if it was an option or if you were forced to be a house wife, and a working wife, but it’s hard. You barley have anytime to do anything. This shows me that maybe men do depend too much on women. Back in the day women used to be only house wives, working 24/7, which was supposedly done, but it’s not. There are so many women out there today with the same situation that you’re in. It’s time for men to learn what we go through, and it’s time for them to not always depend on us.
I also thought that the whole housewife idea was for foreigners. I thought that it only happened to people that come over from different countries to America. I realized that there are women of all different colors and races that do the things that you and my mother do. It has nothing to do with race. The only difference is that if an American woman doesn’t want to be a stay home mom, and she wants to work, then her husband can’t deny her that wish. On the other hand if it were to be a foreigner who wants to work, but their husbands don’t want them to, then it’s not going to happen. That immigrant will stay a house wife.
I had read too many other stories of other women, who live in the same world as you like Therese Carter. She’s constantly working; I mean she’s a work-aholic. It’s not fair, and it’s not right that just because us women have different body parts than men, then we have to be treated like slaves. It’s been going on for a long time, and it’s never going to end, just like racism in our world. Sexism is just as bad as racism. Sometimes there are women who choose to do, and be what they want, and other times they are forced. Everyone should be treated equal, and with the same opportunities.
If women put their minds, and hearts to it, then we can be whatever we want to be, whether it’s a football player, (since there is not one single female in the football league), or whether it’s a lawyer. We are just as good as men, and I hate to see people like us always being put down because we are women. Maybe racism and sexism will all just stop if we start somewhere, and this is the place to start.
Sincerely, Lina
