CR 1

To Jan:
How are you feeling today? Last time we spoke, you seemed a bit melancholy. And a bit disconnected, even depressed. You really worry me.
When you say things never touch you, or you don't notice the world, I don't take it lightly. I don't mean to be negative or critical, Jan. I just think if you notice such things about yourself, you should strive to change them. I want to tell you something you may not know: your life does not have to feel like this...so boring, all the time. Life can, and should be, exciting.
I think what you need most is inspiration. You could travel (bring Stephen), volunteer, read an exciting novel, exercise -- engage yourself and connect to others. Do anything, really, to change how you feel and how you see things. It may sound demanding, or tiresome, to reflect and search for fulfillment or happiness. But, often times, joy emerges from the simplest activities (like those I suggested). You may be surprised how rejuvinating a change in routine can be.
Someone once told me, "Life works if you work it." Try to work it sometime, is all I'm saying. Anyway, those are my (hopefully) helpful words.
Congratulations on the engagement. Stephen is a good guy, and I'm sure you two will be very happy together. You have an entire life ahead of you, enjoy!
Your friend,
M
