Dear Helen Peters,

As a woman, i do understand why you would want to stay home and take care of your children when they are young and i agree that when they are older, a woman could definitely go out in the work place. Nowadays, the mother should not be the only one at home taking care of the children, the father should as well have a period of time when he stays home and watches the children because it is more likely the children won't have a close relationship to the father like they would the mother and children need close relationships with both father and mother. Also everyone should have some type of backup so when your children are older you can go back into the work place because you have a trade or a degree to fall back upon. That is the main mistakes of the women in your town and your PTA. They probably don't have a degree or trade so when their children grew up, they most likely felt that they were to old to go back to school so they have to rely on something else to make them happy. Since the husband is usually at work most of the time they rely on the PTA, to converse with other women that think they have nothing better to do and to play bridge. It is unfortunate that they think they have to, like you said, "hit the bottle" to make their lives feel meaningful and/or to have some type of excitement. My theory is that is never to late to get an education and go back to school to be want you want to be in life. If you want to go to the work place, then do it, don't listen to anyone that would not want the best for you.

To refer to the demonstration that was done in the West Coast, you have to understand that demonstrations are very powerful and when people feel strongly about a particular occurrence they will do everything that they have to do to be heard. I'm pretty sure if the school that your children went to was cutting back money on particular activities that was helping your children learn, you would demonstrate against that as well.

I kinda agree with your comment that sometime individuals can feel helpless because there is so many people in big positions that can start a war if they wanted to without the nations consent. Even though, we have to feel like we have some type of power in our nation. We elect these people, they work for us so they should care and listen to what we have to say that goes in our society. If we work together so that instead of being individuals we can be a united nation, no authoritarian could have any say on what happens in our country without our consent.

It is interesting to know that you could not believe the Ku Klux Klan would shoot a woman in the dark. The Klan are very evil, dangerous people and people are capable of anything. I am glad that are you learning to be tolerant of your fellow man, i wish it would continue to happen.
