I read Jennifer's Aguirre story posted by Jasmine and the story of the 17 years old pot addicted, posted by lizh89. From both stories I got a strong conclusion. Family stability has a huge impact on children's development and identity. Both characters, Jennifer and, let's call her X, had a imbalanced childhood, with parents that give little attention on their education or development. I think both felt lost , disorientated and unadapted. the parents in both cases fail to connect with their children and give them appropriate education or life advise. And both of them remain me of my own childhood. My parents were not pot addicts but had a different addiction; alcohol. I also left home very early and the communication channel was never reenacted.
I can't help wandering, it is more likely for a child who came from parents with some sort of addiction, to fallow the same path? Do children who came from this type of families give up on themselves and their dreams? do they have hard time to adopt in our society and with the society's roles?
i would like to do a research in our campus to see how many student can identify themselves in this category and what can our society or better yet our university can do to help them. Obviously children who came from this type of families have a lot of issues to work on.
