Dear Bonnie Dawson,
I hope that you, your family and your husband are doing well. I also hope that when you receive this letter you are peacefully resting after one of your hard working days. I really admire you for being such a hard working women and a loving mother and wife. It is clear that in your life your family and husband are your priority. You have dedicated your life and time to them, not having time for yourself. That only shows the wonderful person you are.
I understand how hard it must be for you to support your family and take care of your husband. Having your job must not be easy. You have proven that women can have hard jobs and manage to do them. That we should not be marginalized from jobs for being women. Your situation is not an easy one; however, you have done an excellent job. Not only do you have that job, but you also have all the house work. Running from one thing to the other practically leaves you with no time for yourself. I really hope that soon you have time for yourself and to be with your family. It must be really hard not having time to be with them, but I think they understand you. Believe me they will always be thankful for having you as their mother.
Your children will soon be older. They should be very proud of their mother. You have provided them with everything they need to be successful in life. Think about this, they will have an education and good jobs as well. They will be able to help you and your husband. Your life will change for the better. At this point you will feel proud of all your accomplishments. You will see that all your hard work has been worth all your sacrifices.
After reading your interview I felt that there was a connection I had with you. My family and I also moved to Chicago in hopes of finding a better life with new and better opportunities. Since then our lives have been as busy as yours. My parents have been working all the time. They have dedicated themselves to give my brothers and I a better life. My mom stays home and I see how house work is as challenging as other jobs. My dad is working all the time. Our job is school. Still we all have busy lives with little time to spare.
I have come to realize how life goes by without us noticing at what time things occur. Now these days time is the only concern and at often times our own personal life is affected. Even though I’m not working right now I have another stress, which is school. Before I would work and go to school. This was very stressful and like in your situation I had no time for many of the things I wanted to do. I was living my life in a hurry. Now I don’t work, but I often feel my life is running by in a rush and all the things I have to accomplish are building up in an undone list. I wish time would go slower and that I would do all this things and much more.
Days, weeks, and months go by and I still have the same routine. This is very challenging. Thinking about this once again, I understand how you never had time to go Downtown. Your life was also going by so fast. I like to think all the time how in the long run things will be different. I can’t wait until I have a day when I can finally say I have nothing to do, but to relax. I hope that you can soon say these words and eventually do have nothing to do, but to relax. Thank you for being my inspiration in looking forward to the next day; don’t worry things will work out better for you soon.
Sincerely,
Miriam Gutierrez
