Dear Hattie Caroll,
The way you were treated was so wrong, how could no one say anything to him after what he did. The way he did it was so brutal and thought less like no you did not have any feelings. People can be so thoughtless sometimes; I can relate in a way not with the being murdered part but with people not treating you right. If you have one thing that is different then people will focus on that one thing. They do not even try and get to know you. One flaw that people see can change their perspective until you do something to change that.
That man did not even know you had a family or that you were their sole provider and after he murdered you he did not feel any remorse. He did not even get any jail time he got a little while then he was off like nothing happened. How can people not feel anything not feel remorse, pain, love, heartache, nothing? It is shocking to not have any emotions. I knew a person who was like that he did not feel anything it was like their heart grew cold. They did not want to talk to anyone they were completely isolated and it was scary to see that. You never know what people can do when they are like that, like the man that killed Hattie it was like nothing.
Sometimes you have to go through things like killing someone to experience life to know that you have to change. I do not know if he ever really did change but at least he started to realize what he did. Life can be interesting if you go through it being afraid and hiding in the back ground.
Hattie was like that she was a servant who could not speak up for her rights or anything at all. I would say I can relate to her in that way because I was like that in high school. I would never speak up for myself because I did not want people to think I was mean and because I did not want to get into fights. That is beside the point but what I am saying is that you can not hide behind things. You have to fight for what you want.
I have a friend who likes this girl and he is too afraid to talk to her, but you can not hide from your feelings or anything else. If you hide then you are taking away what you Hattie fought for your right to speak freely. Even though you did die you still left a message for me at least. That message is that you can not be afraid to do or say anything you have the right to do it so why not take advantage of that. Life can be so short and you Hattie know that you know how precious it can be and fast it can go away. I admire that about you that you know so much even though you are gone.
That makes you an even more powerful woman and an even greater role model. Because you stand for something that most woman could not, even though no one knows you really it does not matter. You are right up there with the great role models of our time and that is something to be so proud of. Some people go through there whole life trying to achieve greatness. They fall short because they are trying to hard to be something their not.
You have to go through life being you or you’re just faking yourself out and Hattie you did that you were yourself to the day you died. That takes a lot and builds character even though you probably did not know you were doing that. I know a girl who is so sure of herself she never tries to be anything she is not. Some might say it is self confidence and that too much can be conceded but it is not like that. It is self assurance which a lot of people go through life searching for that.
