Dear Anthony Davis,
Today I saw an article in the New York Times, “Faces of the Dead”, and your photo is the first displayed. It says here you died November 25, 2008. Tragedy stuck that day for your family, friends, and for the U.S. as we lost another soldier, friend, son. It also says you were in the army, a strong man I must tell you. It takes strength and aim to join a branch of the military and I for one thank you for your service. I know I do not know you and you do not know me, but this letter is for you, not merely as close as you deserve, but a sheer thank you for protecting our country.
I wish sometimes I were more involved, that I could somehow help all the soldiers that fight for their people everyday. I wish it were possible for the world to see them all and get to know them. We are too concerned with our own lives sometimes to remember those who are away fighting for us. This article is for you, for you and the other fighters who have died in this war. It is a signification of each and every story, each and every face.
This photo and the information about you doesn’t say much. I could imagine you were a bright person with a great sense of humor. You maybe wanted to be a doctor, a police officer, or a teacher when you were younger. Today you have succeeded your dreams; you are a hero, an angel. A hero for our country and an angel for us all. Young boys will dream of being as strong and influential as you. Young men will grow and mish one day they can make a difference, like you have, for the world. To some you might be a fallen soldier but for all you are a soaring hero.
This website and photo does not have much of your information but I see you’re from Florida, Deerfield, I don’t know were that is but it sound nice. I’m from Chicago, its been freezing up here lately, today is an unusually nice day for February its about 50. In the news it says it’s been unusually cold for Florida too, most parts were on freeze warning!!! Overall I hear Florida is a great place to live, I know your family must miss you dearly if words could ever describe how much.
A couple weeks ago history was made, I know you were up in the sky watching from the best seat of all. Barack Obama was sworn in as president of the United States. Millions of people watched as this historic day unfolded. I hope you know that you have made as great an impact as him. You are what are called an unsung hero. There are not enough people in this world to sing a song that is value enough for all of the soldiers lost. People have made tributes, raised money, and thanked you for your service. It is an honor, what you have done, that is valued so much. You along with the many others lost among this war are and forever will be known as heroes.
This letter is not a long one and I might not have said all I wish I could. Words sometimes cannot describe the struggle and endurance all those who have fought for our country have faced. You are one hero out of thousands. You are not jus a face; you are a person, a fighter, and a blessing for this country. More recognition should be shined upon those who have fought for us. I could only hope that this letter shows the gratitude, though it could never be enough, for what you have done.
Sincerely Jasmine
