Letter to Mrs. R. Fuqua Davies

Dear Mrs. R. Fuqua Davies,
My names is Arturo Torres and I also lived in the beautiful yet ugly City of Chicago. Do you still live in this great city? I have lived here all my life and like you I have also seen numerous changes thought the city. The City of Chicago, although can be unattractive in some parts, is beautiful as a whole.
Everyday in the city there is something to do, people to see, sights to see, and places to go. Chicago in my opinion, is one of the greatest cities in the world. I do agree with you that it is probably not up to par with other cities such as New York or Paris but its so exhilarating just being in the city. Also, I do notice the difference because recently I moved to the northern suburbs and find it quiet, calm, and most of the time boring.
Currently the only thing I would change in the city is as in your case some of the ugliness, there are many people living in poverty especially in these economic times. Also some neighborhoods are too dangerous to even walk through, a reason why my family and I moved to the suburbs. The suburbs have their advantages because of security and its peacefulness but the city really gets you blood pumping.
If I were to answer the last question Studs Terkel asked you, “How would you like to see the world, had you the power to change it”, it made me think and I would have to agree with you that even though things can seem a bit hectic at times because of the wars overseas, the economic crisis, and everyday stress there is nothing much that I would change. In your words “ It’s so exciting, the entertainment, the constant striving toward something better than we have.”
Sincerely,
Arturo Torres
