creative response 1 (letter)

To Therese Carter:
I am writing to you because I can relate to your need for quiet. As you stated, sometimes you want to be natural with friends without having to worry about being happy all of the time. Sometimes it is alright to not talk, to stay alone and just think.
I understand what you are saying about the more you read, the more confused you get. That is the case because sometimes you do not know what to believe, when you read too much, the facts begin to cross. This applies for big events as well as daily gossip. For you to enjoy reading is something to be proud of, it is not a waste of time. You are becoming more intelligent the more you read. You will be able to understand the world around you a bit more, not all together, but pieces will become clearer. Do not ever say you are not that good, or that you are dumb. Being eager to learn is intelligence with in itself. You are more educated by trying to learn than others who are not willing to be open minded to it. Those you mentioned that you can not even talk to about this because they will look down on you are the dumb ones. They are not intelligent enough to understand what you are talking about. These people are living in fear, fear of the unknown. They are worried someone or something will be better than them, so they need to keep it down. They are trying to keep you down by discouraging you to improve yourself.
It is important for you to further your education. You want to be a teacher you need to go for it and follow your dream. There is no reason why you should not. If your children are in school full time you can be in school also. You can find a way to balance your time, your husband can help. You would be surprised how, if on the right schedule, you will be able to balance things you did not think you would be able to.
Do not let others make you think this is foolish. Why would a woman not want to pursue her education? Women can be married with children and still have careers of their own. Do not be ashamed to tell them you are going, it is not something to hide, it is something to be proud of. You are accomplishing more than them. You will be going to school to further educate yourself as well as maintain your work at home. You will end of being a stronger woman in the long run.
No one should tell you what you should or should not know you are right about that. You say you talk to others and they are smarter than you and that is why you read. Do not under estimate yourself, they may seem smarter but you are the one bettering yourself. You are making a difference in your life; this makes you the smarter one.
The Vietnam war is a topic you are educated about. You stated you do not know much but you have listed some facts that are both strong and educated. If you are able to debate Vietnam war and civil rights topics with your husband then you have strong points. Strong points are formed from an education that you get from your reading.
As you stated, these people would not be there for you in a crisis. Why care what they think of you? If you want to pursue your education do so, I encourage you too. You are a strong sensible women and you will go far, just stick to your dream and do not let anyone get in your way.

Sincerely,
Mary Gomulka
