This is a photo of Rodney King after he was arrested in March of 1991. King led the LAPD on a wild car chase and eventually was pulled over with a blood alcohol limit of .19. Even though King continued to resist arrest, many feel that the police used excessive force. A bystander videotaped the beating and it was seen by the public nationwide. During the controversial trial, it was decided that a new judge and jury would be used. The new jury contained 8 caucasians, 1 Latino, and 1 Asian. 3 out of 4 arresting officers were acquitted of all charges. This caused an outrage and eventually sparked the infamous L.A. riots. Since then there has been a much deeper look into police brutality and racial discrimination.
